In 1882 Egypt had not gained independence yet from Britain. In fact Britain had just defeated the egyptian army and took control of Egypt.
In 1922 Fuad the first becomes king and Egypt would gain independence.
In 1928 Muslim Brotherhood would be founded by Hassan al-Banna. He would be tragically killed in 1949.
However Egypt would attack Israel with countries such as Iraq, Jordan, and Syria in 1948.
In 1949 a committee was started called the Committee of Free Officers’ Movement. This would be formed to overthrow a corrupt monarchy.
In 1952 in the capital Cairo at least twenty people were killed in anti-British riots.
In 1953 the Coup leader Muhammad Najib becomes president when Egypt is declared as a republic.
Gamal Abdel Nasser a fellow coup leader becomes prime minister of Egypt in 1956 until his death in 1970.
In 1958 President Nasser held campaigns to promote pan-Arabism.
In september 1970 Nasser dies and Anwar al-Sadat Takes his place.
October 1973 Egypt and Syria go to war with Israel to get back land lost in 1967.
1975-The Suez Canal is re-opened for first time since 1967.
October 1981 President Sadat would be assassinated by islamists extremists
In 2006 Bomb attacks in Red Sea result in 20 dead.
